Welcome to the club,
Isaac Brooks.
The senior forward became the 18th men's basketball player to record 1,000 points for his career. He tallied 18 Saturday for the Pipers, who fell 68-62 in overtime Saturday at Bethel. The Lakeville, Minn. native is the third Piper to do so since
Jim Hayes, who is also a member of the club, became the team's head coach.
It was a back and forth game all day with 17 lead changes and seven tie scores.
In addition to Brooks' offensive expertise, he grabbed 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season (
Ethan Scheuring alsop had 10 rebounds). On the scoresheet, Brooks was joined by
Connor Knutson with 15 points and
Jake Larson with 10.
The Royals bolted to a 23-16 lead only to see the Pipers respond smartly with a 12-2 run and a 28-25 lead. BU scored the last seven points of the half for a 32-28 lead at intermission.
The trend continued in the second half. Hamline scored the first five points of the period. Bethel scored the next six.
HU worked into a 54-49 lead with 3:39 to play. The Royals came back with a 6-1 run to tie the game at 55 and force the extra session.
Larson's three pointer pushed HU ahead 60-59 but the Royals shot back with a pair of lone range successes and the Pipers could only get within three points after that.
Hamline is 8-8 overall, 5-6 in the MIAC. The latter mark places them alone in sixth place, the final playoff spot. Hamline continues its three game road trek Monday, January 21 at St. Olaf. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
