Triston Thomas, however, casts a big shadow on the football field for Hamline. The wide receiver snatched six passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for the Pipers in their 69-21 loss at Gustavus Adolphus Saturday. The Floridian also returned four kickoffs for 123 yards -- including a season best 72 yarder. That pushed his seasonal yardage total for Total Offense to 928 yards, an average of over 132 yards per game that ranks third in the conference.
Thomas was the recipient of a
Connor Leavens TD strike in the fourth quarter. It was the junior signal caller's second six pointer of the day. In the second quarter, he found
Matt Miller for a 17 yard scoring play.
Tyler Dobbs also ran for a score as part of Hamline's 230 yards of total offense.Â
HU fell into a 27-0 first quarter hole. The Pipers rushed for 103 yards and threw for 127 more. On the other side of the ball,
Monty Stenroos made his presence with a game high 10 tackles, five of which were solo efforts. The senior leads the Pipers (and ranks third in the conference) with 63 tackles ,13 of which have been for a loss.Â
Hamline, now 1-6 overall (0-5 MIAC), has a bye next week. The Pipers return to the field Nov. 2 at Bethel. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
