Record Setting Night for VB In Win Over Concordia

October 2, 2019 will be a night to remember for some time for the Hamline volleyball team. The Pipers exorcised another past demon and added more notches into the school record book with a 3-1 win over Concordia at Hutton Arena. It was the first Piper VB triumph over a Cobber contingent since 1992.

There heroes were aplenty in the 23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-20 decision
  • Morgen Coleman had seven services aces, tied for fifth best in a match in school history. She now has 123 for her career, fourth best all time and stands second in the MIAC at 0.54 Service Aces Per Set. She also had 20 digs.
  • Maggie Gavic had another monster night on the back line, recording a game high 26 digs, including 11 in the first set alone.
  • Megan Rubbelke continued her climb up the record ladder, passing the 1700 career assist mark with 48. She also had six kills and hit .500 on the night. She is one of five MIACers averaging 10 Assists or more per Set.
  • Madison Hurrle hit a solid .289 and had a game high 16 kills. She is third in the conference at 3.49 Kills Per Set and sits seventh in the conference with 199.
  • Rachel Rettman hit .381 for the night with 11 kills. Sydney Larson also had 11 kills.

The Pipers led most of the way in the first set only to see CC catch them at the end. There was no catching Hamline after that. HU roared to a 17-4 lead in the second set en route to the win and followed that with two tight but solid showings to improve to 11-5 overall, 2-1 in the MIAC.

For the night, Hamline's hitting percentage improved as things went on, finishing with a .225 mark. In addition to Gavic and Coleman, Gabby Robinson had 16 digs and Karly Bihner contributed 11.

The Pipers remain at Hutton this weekend, hosting Gustavus Adolphus (9-8, 2-1 MIAC) on Saturday, October 5. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
