Pipers open MIAC play with strong 6-0 win over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The #5 Hamline women's hockey team (2-1-1, 1-0 MIAC) started off their conference season strong, defeating Augsburg (2-1, 0-1 MIAC) 6-0 at Ed Saugestad Rink on Friday night.

The Pipers picked up right where they left off in their last game, as they have now scored six goals in each of their last two contests. Five different Hamline players got in on the scoring with first year Sophie Rausch being the only one to score twice. Rausch also added an assist to tally three points on the night.

Fellow first year Taylor Stefan also had a three-point day, assisting two goals and scoring one of her own.

It was Rausch who would get the Pipers on the board first, as she scored a little over halfway through the first period. She was assisted by Stefan and Olivia Arkell. Rausch added to that lead in the second, scoring less than two minutes into the period, this time assisted by Zoey Lobejko and Molly Garin.

Only minutes after Rausch's second goal, Stefan chipped in with her goal to make it 3-0 in favor of the Pipers. Stefan was assisted by Garin and Rausch. The scoring did not stop there for Hamline, however, as they went on to score twice more in the period, getting goals from Madison Kolbow on a power play and Katie Carlson. Bre Simon was part of both scoring plays, picking up two assists, and teammates Barrett Boyer and Stefan also contributed an assist each.

In the third, it was Michaela Arnold who would find the back of the net for HU, scoring nine minutes in to make it 6-0.

Despite being unable to score, Augsburg still tested goalie Jaela O'Brien, firing 24 shots throughout the game. The sophomore stopped all of them, though, to improve to 1-1-1 on the season.

HU will look to make it three wins in a row tomorrow, facing Augsburg on their home ice at 2:00 p.m. If you are unable to make it out to TRIA Rink, follow the link on the schedule page to watch the game live.
