ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline women's hockey team (2-2-1, 1-1 MIAC) saw an early lead slip away on Saturday afternoon, falling to Augsburg (3-1, 1-1 MIAC) 4-3 at TRIA Rink. Senior
Bre Simon had two of Hamline's goals, scoring once in the second period and again in the third.
The Pipers, who defeated Augsburg 6-0 on Friday night, looked like their offense was going to come through once again as they scored first in the contest. Similarly to yesterday, it was first year
Sophie Rausch who opened the scoring for HU, converting on a pass from
Olivia Arkell. Rausch is now tied with
Taylor Stefan for most points on the team, as they each have six so far this season.
In the second, Simon scored her first goal to increase the Piper lead to two. Senior
Jordan Hansen assisted the goal. A little over a minute later, the Auggies answered with a goal of their own to once again make it a one-goal game.
Augsburg tied it up in the third, scoring on a power play nine minutes into the period. Simon scored her second goal of the game minutes later to once again put HU in the lead. This time she was assisted
Madison Kolbow.
The Auggies' offense wasn't done, however, as they scored two more goals before the period was over. Hamline pulled their goalie in the final minute of play but was unable to score, allowing Augsburg to claim the 4-3 win.
Goalkeeper
Jaela O'Brien made 18 saves in net for the Pipers and is now 1-2-1 on the season.
The Pipers continue MIAC play next weekend, taking on St. Olaf at home on Friday night at 7 p.m., before traveling to Northfield on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
