Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Hamline downs Oles 6-0 on Friday night

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline women's hockey team (3-2-1, 2-1 MIAC) scored two goals in the first period against St. Olaf (0-7, 0-3 MIAC) and did not look back from there, going on to defeat the Oles 6-0 on Friday night at TRIA Rink.

The Pipers had a dominating offensive presence in the game, firing 57 shots compared to St. Olaf's four. The 57 shots was only six shy of the school record that was set by the team back in 2007.

Five different Pipers tallied goals in the game, with Bre Simon scoring twice. The senior ended with four total points, assisting two other goals throughout the contest. First years Madison Davis and Michaela Arnold also had multi-point games with two apiece, chipping in to the scoring with a goal and an assist each.

It was Simon who opened the scoring, getting an unassisted goal seven minutes into the first period. Davis added to that lead with a goal eight minutes later, putting the Pipers up 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

HU had an even bigger second period, adding three more goals. Simon logged her second goal of the game early in the second period, being assisted by Davis and Arnold. Next to net one for Hamline was first year Taylor Stefan getting a rebound off of Molly Garin's shot on goal. The final goal of the period came from first year Sophie Rausch, who found the back of the net unassisted.

Arnold scored in the third period, finishing off a passing sequence from Simon and Olivia Arkell, putting the Pipers up 6-0.

St. Olaf goalkeepers Taylor Smith and Ivy Shonka combined for over 50 saves in the game, but they could not stop the HU offense, as they scored six goals for the third time this season.

Junior McKenna Hulslander recorded the win in net, improving to 2-0 on the year.

The Pipers and the Oles will faceoff again tomorrow, this time playing in Northfield at 2:00 p.m. If you are unable to travel to St. Olaf for the game, check the women's hockey schedule page for live stat and video links.
