NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Hamline women's hockey team (4-2-1, 3-1 MIAC) recorded their first conference sweep of the season with a 5-1 win over St. Olaf (0-8, 0-4 MIAC) in Northfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers also broke the single game shots on goal record in the contest, firing 67 shots throughout the game. The previous record was 63, set back in 2007 in a game against Chatham.
HU's offense has now scored five or more goals in four different games already this season. Hamline's defense also had an impressive game, only allowing three shots on net during the entire 60 minutes. The Pipers were also dominant on faceoffs, winning 43 of 50.
This time, Hamline's offense used five different players to reach their 5-1 win. Senior defender
Zoey Lobejko led the team in points in the contest, assisting three different goals.
First year
Michaela Arnold was the first to score for HU, scoring seven minutes into the first period. Sophomore
Molly Garin was next to strike, taking advantage of a power play late in the period to give the Pipers a 2-0 lead. Lobejko assisted both of these first two scores, with
Madison Davis also assisting Arnold and
Rae Robert also assisting Garin.
St. Olaf was the only one to score in the second period, getting the game within one, six and a half minutes into the frame.
Hamline would add three extra goals in the third period, though, putting the game out of reach for the Oles. First year
Taylor Stefan was the first to score in the period, finishing a
Sophie Rausch and Garin passing sequence.
Next to score was junior
Madison Kolbow, being assisted by Lobejko and senior
Jordan Hansen. Rausch capped off the scoring a minute and a half later, taking a pass from senior
Dani Wright.
Junior
McKenna Hulslander and first year
Maddie Nickell shared the duties in net in the game, with Huslander earning her second straight win and her third win overall.
The Pipers are next in action on Tuesday night, when they will travel to Wisconsin to take on non-conference opponent UW-Eau Claire. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
