Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Pipers edged by #6 UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The #9 Hamline women's hockey team (4-3-1) traveled to Eau Claire for a midweek top-10 matchup, falling to UW-Eau Claire 4-3.

The Pipers struck first in the game, but three early third period goals for the Blugolds put them up 3-1. HU answered at 16:20, but UW-Eau Claire scored again two minutes later to retake a two-goal lead. Hamline scored in the final minute of play, but ran out of time to complete the comeback, allowing the Blugolds to walk away with the 4-3 decision.

Neither team was able to score in the first period, as the opponents each tallied four shots on net through the first 20 minutes. In the second period, junior Olivia Arkell was the one to find the back of the net, scoring on a power play at 7:09. Arkell was assisted by first year Michaela Arnold.

The Blugolds retaliated early in the third period, scoring on a power play less than two minutes in. They would keep on the offensive, scoring twice within a minute to take a 3-1 lead. Arnold got the game back within one for HU with a goal of her own, scoring off a pass from senior Bre Simon.

Two minutes later, UW-Eau Claire scored again to once again give themselves a more comfortable lead, but the Pipers were not done yet, as they scored at 19:19 to make the score 4-3. This time it was sophomore Molly Garin who scored, being assisted by first year Sophie Rausch. HU was unable to get another shot off in the period, leaving the final score 4-3.

Junior McKenna Hulslander took the loss in net, making 15 saves throughout the contest. This was her first loss of the season, as she is now 3-1.

The Pipers will return to MIAC play in their next game, heading to Bethel on Friday, December 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
