BB Loses Runfest To Allegheny

It was an offensive day in Tucson for the Hamline and Allegheny baseball teams. Both team drilled out 19 hits but the Pipers, who trailed at one point by 14-1, could not catch up and dropped a 21-18 decision.

Logan Tollefson (pictured) went 4-for-6 with three RBI, Nolan Schoonveld went 3-for-5 with four RBI, Brody Russell had three hits and three RBI and Dayton Gutsch rapped out three hits and scored three runs to pace the Piper attack on this freewheeling day. The first seven batters in the Hamline order had hits and RBIs. Elliott Engen, who didn't even get into the game until the seventh inning, had two hits and two RBI.

It was that kind of day.

The Pipers got off to a tough start. Allegheny scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and five more in the second. It ran to 14-1 after three innings. Hamline came back swinging with three fourth inning runs and four more in the fifth. The Gators came back for five runs and a 19-8 lead after six innings.

Hamline refused to give in. In the seventh, 11 batters came to the plate. Engen singled home two runs and Schoonveld hit a three-run homer. HU sent nine more batters in the eighth and scored three times to get within 19-18. The Gators scored twice in the bottom of the inning and then had a 1-2-3 ninth to take the decision.

The Pipers are 4-5 on the season. They continue their Tucson trek with a nine inning game against Marian on Wednesday.
