Baseball Bangs Past Wis-Superior, 16-8

The Hamline baseball team may be understandably reluctant to leave Tucson, Arizona. The Pipers' final game on their nine game swing out west was a hitfest as HU doubled up Wis-Superior, 16-8.

Devin Rodgers (pictured) pushed his hitting streak to nine straight games with a 4-for-4 effort. The junior also scored three times and knocked in four runs. He was hardly alone in posting huge offensive numbers.

Nolan Schoonveld went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs score. Cullen Buck, Elliott Engen, Jake Dujmovic and Logan Tiollefson also had two hits apiece as part of a 18 hit assault on four UWS hurlers.

The Pipers scored in six of their eight innings they batted. The Yellowjackets scored a run in the top of the first inning but Rodgers' bases loaded double netted three tallies in a four run inning and the tone was set for the day. Hamline led 6-4 after three innings. In the middle three, they scored seven unanswered runs and rolled to the win. Jimmy Skroch went the first 6.1 innings to earn the victory, his second without a loss.

Hamline, which scored 74 runs in winning five of nine games in Arizona, is 6-7 overall. They head to Storm Lake, Iowa March 26 to face Buena Viusta in a double header.
