Game Recap: Baseball |

Bullpen Stands Out in BB Loss to Eagles

It was one of those evening that makes baseball the mysterious game it is. Hamline held Northwestern to three hits but dropped a 4-1 decision to the Eagles on their field Monday.

Four Piper pitchers basically silenced the Eagle bats,  allowing a run in the first and three in the third. But HU also had trouble putting hits together, finishing with four for the game and scoring their lone run in the ninth inning.

Nolan Schoonveld, Cullen Buck, Brody Russell singled and Avery Nelson doubled to account for the Hamline offense. Down 4-0 going into their last at-bat, Jake Dujmovic led off with a walk and moved to second on Russell's single. A double play sent Dujmovic to third with two out. Hunter Rickaby was safe on an error that scored the run but that was as far as the Pipers could get.

Jake Millard, the Hamline starter, gave up the runs and took the loss. Nolan Hartmann (pictured), Taylor Just and Zach Branson gave up just two hits and no runs in relief in siox innings of relief work.

The Pipers now stand 6-10 overall. They will look to improve on their 0-2 MIAC standard when they play at Bethel Wednesday. The doubleheader begins at 2:30 p.m.
