Game Recap: Baseball |

Schoonveld, Engen Swing Big Sticks For BB at Bethel

Nolan Schoonveld and Elliott Engen had three hits each to pace the baseball offense in a 2-0, 3-1 doubleheader loss at Bethel Wednesday. HU received excellent pitching from Jimmy Skroch and Jake Dujmovic but fell to 7-13 overall, 0-4 in the MIAC.

In the opener, Schoonveld had a single and a double and Engen drilled a pair of singles for four of the five HU hits in the first game. Skroch allowed solo runs in the first and second innings and then shut down the Royals the rest of the way, allowing just four hits in tossing a complete game.

In Game 2, the Pipers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Zach Langton walked, was bunted to second, moved to third on an Engen single and scored when Brody Russell hit into a fielder's choice. BU tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Dujmovic went six strong innings, giving up just five hits. A two run homer off reliever Evan Bayer in the eighth broke the tie and gave the Royals the win.

The Pipers are back on the field Saturday when they take on Augsburg at Parade Stadium in downtown MInneapolis. The twinbill starts at 1:00 p.m.
