Cullen Buck and Zach Langton bat 3-4 in the baseball batting order. On Saturday, they were a solid 1-2 punch for the Pipers. Each had three hits for Hamline, which droppedĀ 6-2 and 9-2 games to Macalester at CHS Field.
Buck, a sophomore, had a RBI single in the opener and two hits and a RBI in the second game. Langton, also a sophomore, did his damage in the second game with three singles.Ā
The opener was a tight affair for six innings.
Evan Bayer scattered five hits and had a pair of pickoffs in the first six innings. He surrendered solo runs in the third and fourth but got in a groove and retired eight batters in a row at one point. The Pipers used some "little ball" to manufacture two third inning run. Buck's infield single produced one and a second came in on a wild pitch.
The game remained tied until the seventh when the Scots broke loose for four runs to earn the decision.
In the second game, the Scots scored twice in the second but HU got one back immediately when Langton singled and eventually scored on a
Dayton Gutsch hit. Mac scored seven times in the three innings to break the game open.
Nolan Hartmann (pictured) then stemmed the tide with four scoreless innings of relief.Ā
Hamline fell to 13-16 overall, 5-7 in MIAC play. HU is back at CHS on Tuesday, April 23 to host Gustavus Adolphus in a twinbill. The first game will start at 2:30 p.m.
