On a day when Hamline honored its senior players, the seniors-to-be got in on the action as well.
Dani Perry, one of six Pipers playing their final regular season home game at Klas Field, scored three goals but she had a lot of company as HU overwhelmed Aurora, 14-6, Saturday and moved one step closer to a second straight Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference regular season championship.
The Pipers are 11-0 in league play, 14-1 overall. The Spartans entered the day as a challenger for the top spot but now have two losses. If HU wins next weekend at either Marian or Concordia (WI), they again will serve as host for the league playoffs in early May.
The Pipers knew the Spartans had a lot to play for.
Sydney Dynneson, a junior, gave HU an early lead but the Spartans promptly tied the game at 1. HU then untried the game with four unanswered goals in a seven minute span.
Maya Hernandez, also a junior who would score three herself, had the last of these tallies, Aurora replied with a pair to make it 5-3 but
Radian Lenz did likewise and the Pipers were off and running.
Perry added two in the final 63 seconds of the half to give HU an 11-3 intermission advantage that proved to be formidable.
At the other end of the spectrum,
Molly Dionne, also part of the group that has been here from the start, recorded five saves to earn the win in goal. The other seniors are four year vets
Lexus Tatge,
Maddie Brown and
Alycia Monserrate Novotny as well as
Jensen Sevening.
Hamline plays at Marian April 27 at 1:00 p.m. and the next day at Concordia, also at 1:00 p.m.
