Timing was everything Saturday for the HU women's soccer team.
Siri Parker scored a goal late in the first half and
Ashlee Olson added one early in the second half to propel the Pipers to a 2-1 win over Whitman in Spokane, Washington. The Pipers went 1-1 on their West Coast swing.
After being held scoreless Friday, Parker got the initial tally on 2019 in the 41st minute. The senior converted a
Kaelin O'Fallon pass and moved past the Blues goalie to give HU a lead heading into halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, Olson netted a shot from the middle of the box and that was all the Pipers would need.
Lauren Sicora started in goal, recorded eight saves and allowed one shot past her in 70:20 to earn the victory. Sicora's 22 saves on the weekend are the most by any MIAC netminder in the early going.
Melanie Hopkins held down the fort for the last 19:40.
The Pipers return to action September 9 when they open the MIAC season against Macalester at Paterson Field. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
