VB Rallies Past Yellowjackets For Friday Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It took a while but the end result was well worth it for the Piper volleyball team. Playing their second match of the night, Hamline found some inner strength when they needed it the most for a 3-2 victory over Wis-Superior and a split of their evening activity ion a tournament at River Falls, Wis. 

Rachel Rettman (3) delivered the final blow that gave HU a  hardfought 15-12 win over the Yellowjackets in the final set. UWS took the opener, 28-26. Hamline snapped back for 25-12 and 25-23 wins but the Yellowjackets for a fifth battle with a 25-23 decision. 

Megan Rubbelke etched her name further in the Piper record book with 61 assists in the match. It was the most by a Piper in 13 years and is tied for the fourth most ever recorded by a HU player. Madison Hurrle was the top attacker with 23 kills aided by Sydney Larson (14), Gabby Robinson (12) and Rettman, who recorded 10. As a team, the Pipers hit .245 for the match.

On the back wall, Morgen Coleman had a career high 24 digs. Maggie Gavic had 18 and Robinson contributed 17. Hamline had 88 for the match. 

Earlier in the day, Hamline dropped a non-conference encounter with St. Benedict, 3-0. Hurrle had 13 kills and Larson added seven. Rubbelke was helpful with 33 assists with Robinson (12) and Karlky Bihner (10) topping in digs,

The Pipers stand 6-3 overall and face Northland at 10:0 a.m. Saturday at River Falls.
