HU completes sweep of Saint Ben’s with 5-2 win

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline women's hockey team (11-3-1, 7-1 MIAC) earned their third conference sweep and their seventh straight win on Tuesday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Saint Benedict (7-6-1, 2-6 MIAC) at TRIA Rink.

Sophomore Molly Garin had a massive performance for the Pipers, being involved in four of the team's five scoring plays. Senior Bre Simon added to the offense as well with three points of her own, making it her third game in the past four where she has had three points or more. The duo currently lead the league in points and goals on the season as Simon has 23 points and 11 goals and Garin is close behind with 21 points and nine goals.

Senior Jordan Hansen and junior Olivia Arkell also had multiple points in the game, recording two assists each.

Garin got the scoring going early for the Pipers scoring two minutes into the game on a power play off a pass from Arkell and Simon. The Mound, Minn. native tacked on to Hamline's lead a little more than four minutes later scoring again, this time off of passes from Hansen and senior Zoey Lobejko.

In the second it was Simon who would score twice, getting goals about a minute apart. She scored first at 15:05, finishing a play from Garin and Hansen. Garin set up Simon again at 16:15, taking a pass from first year Elizabeth Valley and crossing it to Simon who found the back of the net with the Pipers being shorthanded at the time.

In the third period, Saint Benedict scored less than three minutes into the period, making it 4-1. HU would answer with a goal at 5:08 as junior Madison Kolbow beat the goalie after getting a pass from Arkell. The Bennies added a final goal with 18 seconds left in the contest to make the final 5-2.

Junior McKenna Hulslander earned the win in net, making 13 total saves on the night while giving up one goal. First year Maddie Nickell finished out the game in net for HU, letting in CSB's second goal. Hulslander improves to 4-1 on the season with the win.

The Pipers will be on the road next weekend, taking on Concordia on Friday and Saturday with both games being played in Moorhead. Live stat and video links will be available on the schedule page.
