Pipers cruise to 8-0 win over Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Hamline women's hockey team (12-3-1, 7-1 MIAC) continued their recent offensive hot streak, scoring eight times to defeat Concordia (5-11, 3-6 MIAC) 8-0 in Moorhead. With the win, the Pipers stretch their win streak to eight straight games.
 
HU has scored an incredible 31 goals in their past five games, averaging 6.2 goals per game in that span. Senior Bre Simon has scored eight of those goals, while totaling 14 points in the team's five games of 2020.
 
Simon would get the game-winner in tonight's contest while also assisting a later goal to record her seventh multiple point game of the year.
 
Six other Pipers would find the back of the net with junior Taylor Henthorne being the only one to score twice. Sophomore Molly Garin had the most points for HU, scoring and dishing out two assists to end with three points.
 
The team held an impressive 62-17 shot advantage in the contest while also winning 45 of the 64 faceoffs (70.3%).
 
Simon scored her goal 14 minutes into the first period being assisted by first year Hannah Dorsey. Senior Jordan Hansen added another goal for HU a little over two minutes later to put them up 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
 
Garin, who assisted Hansen's first period goal, started the scoring in the second finding the back of the net at 4:26. Simon and senior Zoey Lobejko recorded assists on the play. Garin and Hansen set up the next goal, with sophomore Rae Robert putting it in at 12:26. Henthorne had the final goal of the period, being assisted by senior Dani Wright.
 
The Pipers kept up the offensive pressure in the third, scoring three more times. First year Sophie Rausch beat the goalie at 6:44, finishing passes from Robert and Lobejko. Henthorne scored her second goal of the game at 15:50 and junior Taylor Curtis capped off the scoring at 17:20. Junior Olivia Arkell and Wright assisted Henthorne's goal and Rausch and Dorsey assisted Curtis' score.
 
Sophomore Jaela O'Brien recorded her third shutout of the season, making 17 saves on the night. She is now 8-2-1 on the year, winning in her past seven starts.
 
Hamline will finish the series tomorrow, January 25, playing at 2:00 p.m. in Moorhead.
