Pipers’ cold shooting forces loss to Carleton

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline men's basketball team (2-10, 0-7 MIAC) fell to Carleton College (6-7, 3-5 MIAC) on Wednesday night at Hutton Arena by a final score of 71-54.

Junior Michael Dillon led the Pipers' effort as he recorded a near double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore teammate Luke Siwek was the only other scorer in double figures with 11 points of his own and senior Lucas Berg recorded nine, shooting a solid four of seven from the field.

The Pipers couldn't overcome a cold night of shooting as they only hit on 26.9 percent of their shots overall and 29.6 percent from three. They were efficient from the free throw line, however, as they knocked down nine of 10 from the stripe. They also forced Carleton into 15 turnovers, while only committing four of their own.

Carleton came out hot in the first half as they shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the floor and 66.7 from three jumping out to a 39-26 halftime lead. They did cool off after the break only shooting 44 percent from the field and 20 percent from three. Overall they shot 51 percent and connected on seven of their 14 attempts from downtown through both periods.

Kent Hanson, a second team All-MIAC selection a year ago, had a near double-double with a game-high 26 points shooting 10 of 15 overall and hitting six of his eight three point attempts, while nabbing nine rebounds. Alex Battist also had an efficient night as he drained six of nine for 16 points.

Hamline will conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday, with a 1:00 p.m. game against MIAC foe Saint Mary's.
