Taylor Stefan scored early for the #6 Hamline women's hockey team (15-3-4, 11-1-3 MIAC) on Friday night, but St. Thomas (12-6-4, 11-3-1 MIAC) answered with a goal late in the third period making the final 1-1 at TRIA Rink.

With the tie, Hamline earned one point in the MIAC standings and is now in second place with 25 total points on the year. It remains a tight race for the first seed in the playoff tournament, as #5 Gustavus leads with 26, Augsburg is in third with 24, and St. Thomas is in fourth with 23.

The Pipers were active offensively all game, taking double the amount of shots as the Tommies in the contest, with a 36-16 edge.

Stefan netted her unassisted goal within the first seven minutes of the game, putting Hamline up early. This was her sixth goal of the season and ninth overall point. After this HU had to kill a penalty, but the game remained 1-0 after the first period, with Hamline holding a 9-4 advantage in shots.

In the second, the Pipers had two power play opportunities, but could not convert, leaving the game at 1-0. The team would record a 11-5 edge in shots in the second frame.

St. Thomas' Maddy Fiedler put the Tommies on the board with a goal with only five minutes left in the game. The Pipers forced the UST goalie to make five saves in the final minutes of regulation, but the game would head into overtime.

Hamline dominated possession for the majority of the overtime period and would take three shots on goal compared to the Tommies' one, but time expired before either team could score, keeping the game tied at one apiece.

McKenna Hulslander tallied 15 saves in net, earning the tie. She moves to 7-1-1 on the year while having the second lowest goals against average in the conference at 1.09.

The Pipers will head to Mendota Heights tomorrow for the rematch, taking on the Tommies at 2:00 p.m.
