ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline men's hockey team (6-15-4, 4-9-3 MIAC) ended their 2020 season on a high note, rallying to defeat St. Thomas (10-10-3, 7-6-1 MIAC) in overtime 3-2 at TRIA Rink.

Senior
Sam Nelson wrapped up his collegiate career with 33 saves to earn his third win of the season. He now has 470 saves on the year, finishing his career with 908 saves in his past two seasons with the Pipers. Â

Hamline scored first in the game, with junior
Kyle Wendorf scoring on a power play with only two minutes left in the first period, being assisted by first year
Andrew Erwin and sophomore
Jeron Hirschfeld.

The Tommies answered with a power play goal of their own less than three minutes into the second period, and they would add another goal early in the third to take a 2-1 lead.

With less than five minutes left to play, sophomore
John Sullivan scored his first goal of the year, tying the game up at two apiece. Sophomore
Brendan Sheehan and senior
Luke Erickson each tallied an assist on the play.

Neither team was able to score in the final minutes, sending the game into overtime. It was Sheehan who would get the game-winner for HU, ending the game at 2:48 after finishing a scrum in front of the net. Sophomore
Brandon Bissett and junior
Riley Meyer both assisted the game-winner.

The Pipers concluded their 2020 season with the win, ending with 16 MIAC points. Nelson, Erickson, and
Brady Crabtree, the team's three seniors, were all honored during the first period intermission, thanking them for their dedication and contributions to the program.
