Pipers Tie Game Late, But Fall 69-62 OT to Northwestern (Minn.)

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team's 2021-22 season opener pitted them against Northwestern (Minn.) at Hutton Arena on Wednesday. The Pipers erased a seven-point, 55-48 fourth-quarter deficit with a 7-0 run that was capped by Chan'el Anderson-Manning's layup, followed by an "and-one" free throw that knotted the game at 55-55 with 1:37 left in the frame. Hamline couldn't keep their momentum alive in overtime as they were outscored 14-7 in the frame en route to a 69-62 loss.

The Pipers begin the season 0-1, while Northwestern improves to 1-0.

Both teams combined for 49 free throw attempts in the contest. Eighteen of those attempts came from Northwestern's Kelsea Lund, who made 16 from the charity stripe. Lund led all scorers with 24 points, off just 3-of-11 from the field. It was Hamline who dominated in offensive boards with 17, which led to their 18 second-chance points.

Sophie Findell and Tess Hauer each tallied 11 points and seven boards for the Pipers, while Lydia Lecher scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds. Chan'el Anderson-Manning and Alyssa Williamson each registered a game-high four steals.

Megan Roberts registered a double-double for Northwestern with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pipers will host Martin Luther on Wednesday, November 17 at 5:45 p.m.
