DECORAH, IOWA—The Hamline University men's basketball team made the 166-mile trip to Decorah, Iowa to face Luther College on Saturday night. Cooper Berg gave the Pipers a pair of brief one-point leads in the second half at 38-37 with 15:24 left off a layup, and 60-59 with 4:33 on the clock thanks to a three-pointer. Hamline couldn't hold on as Luther came back and secured a 64-63 win.
The Pipers fall to 0-2, while Luther's first win of the season puts their record at 1-2.
Luther 64, Hamline 63
The Norse led from start-to-finish in the opening half, as they took a 35-29 advantage over Hamline at intermission. Cooper Berg gave Hamline 38-37, and 60-59 leads off a three-pointer and layup, with the latter occurring with 4:33 left in the game. Luther responded with a 5-0 run that gave them a 64-60 lead with 1:51 remaining, before Berg cut the Norse advantage to one at 64-63 off a three-pointer with 1:35 on the clock, where things stayed final.
Tait Nelson led all scorers with 19 points off 8-of-19 shooting, and a trio of three-pointers for Hamline, who shot .397 (25-for-63) as a team from the field. Nelson also added six assists.
Berg tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Chasen Livingston rounded out the Pipers in double figures with 12 points.
Hamline will host Martin Luther on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:45 p.m.
