ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline women's hockey team (4-1, 1-1 MIAC) fell to Concordia Moorhead (1-0-1, 1-0-1 MIAC) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at TRIA Rink. This ended a six-game win streak that the Pipers previously held over the Cobbers.
Â
Power plays were an important part of the Concordia offense on the day, as they scored on two of their four power play opportunities during the game. Their first goal came only five minutes into the first period, as they took advantage of a 5-on-3 scenario, getting a slapshot past the Piper defense and sophomore goalie
Ava Bailey.
Â
The Cobbers added another goal early in the second period to keep the momentum on their side and would then use a power play chance later in the period to give themselves a 3-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Â
Senior
Taylor Curtis would get the Pipers on the board late into the third period, putting away a lose puck after a shot from first year
Ally Steffensmeier. This was Curtis' first goal of the season and she is now the seventh Piper to score so far this year.
Â
After the goal, Hamline had another power play opportunity and would pull their goalie, but they were not able to score, leaving the final at 3-1.
Â
Overall, the Pipers held slight advantage in shots (30-28), but held a dominant edge in faceoffs won, winning 44 of 61. Junior
Molly Garin won an impressive 26 throughout the game.
Â
Bailey tallied 25 saves in the contest, making this her third straight game where she saved 20 or more shots.
Â
The Pipers will play again next Saturday when they travel to Gustavus to take on the Gusties in a 7:00 p.m. matchup. Gustavus is currently 1-1 on the season after a win over Augsburg and a loss to Bethel. The Gusties will take on Saint Benedict on Sunday and Augsburg on Thursday before taking on Hamline on February 27.
