Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Mary-Clare Couillard

Hamline blanked at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - In their first conference game of the season, the Hamline men's hockey team (0-3, 0-1 MIAC) fell to Augsburg (4-0, 1-0 MIAC) 4-0 at Ed Saugestad Rink in Minneapolis.

The Auggies held a 43-23 advantage in shots throughout the contest, as sophomore Kevin Lake tallied a new career high in saves at 39 on the night. Lake made 38 saves in Thursday's game against Augsburg and currently leads the conference in saves with 91 in the early stages of the season.

Despite not being able to get on the board, the Pipers had some chances as they had seven power play opportunities in the game, but they were unable to capitalize with a goal. This is the first time that Hamline has been shutout since December 7, 2018.

Six different Pipers took multiple shots, being led by senior Austin Wisely's four shots throughout the game. Joe Collins, Andrew Erwin, and Sam Dabrowski all added three shots each, with Kyle Wendorf and Bailey Martin firing two. Wendorf was also solid on faceoffs, winning 16 of his 24 chances.

The Auggies scored 14 minutes into the first period, using a power play to take an early lead and would add another before the first break to lead 2-0 after the first 20 minutes.

In the second, Augsburg scored eight and a half minutes in and would add an additional power play goal before the period was over, giving themselves a comfortable 4-0 lead heading into the third.

Neither team was able to score in the final period, leaving the final at 4-0.

The Pipers will play next on Friday, February 12 when they host the USA National Team Development Program (NTDP) U-17 team for an exhibition game at TRIA Rink. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The following day, the Pipers will resume their conference schedule, taking on Saint Mary's for a 7:00 p.m. game at TRIA.
