Chicago, Ill. - In their second road game of the season, the Hamline women's lacrosse team (1-1) fell to the University of Chicago (1-0) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 18-3. The Pipers will continue their current road trip, heading to Carroll tomorrow for another 1:00 p.m. game.
 
The Maroons, who were picked to finish first in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), provided a solid offensive attack for the entire 60 minutes on Saturday, scoring 10 goals in the first half and eight in the second to earn their first win of the season.
 
Senior Alyssa Bryan-Jeffries tied her career-high for saves in net, tallying 18 in the game. Of Hamline's three goals, senior Maria Lewis was responsible for two of them, scoring on two of her three shots. Senior Ashley Hessler scored the final goal for HU, while also adding an assist.
 
The first five minutes of play were scoreless, but UChicago got on the board first with a goal with 24:40 left in the half. The Maroons would add five more goals before Lewis scored for Hamline, making it 6-1. Lewis was assisted by senior Maya Hernandez on the play. The rest of the half belonged to UChicago, as they scored four more times to take a 10-1 lead into halftime.
 
Lewis was the first to score in the second half, taking a pass from Hessler this time to make it 10-2. The Maroons quickly snatched the momentum back, however, scoring the next eight straight goals to put the game out of reach. Hessler scored the final goal of the game to make the final 18-3.
