NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Hamline men's hockey team (2-4, 1-2 MIAC) finished up their shortened 2021 season with a 3-2 win over St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday night. The Pipers had three different players score in the win, with
Tyler Nyman,
Brendan Sheehan, and
Joe Collins all finding the back of the net throughout the contest.
Â
HU is now 2-2-1 in their last five matchups with the Oles. Last season, they faced off three times with Hamline winning the first game 4-1, but falling in the next two.
Â
In tonight's game, the Pipers were the first to strike, with Nyman finishing up passes from Collins and junior
Bailey Martin to put Hamline up early. The Oles would tie it up before the first period was over, making it 1-1 after the first 20 minutes.
Â
Sheehan would be the only one to score in the second period, being assisted by junior
Brandon Bissett and first year
Taylor Khoury.
Â
In the third, the Oles took advantage of a power play opportunity, scoring eight minutes into the period to tie it back up, this time at two goals apiece.
Â
Collins came up clutch for the Pipers in the late minutes of the game for the second time this season, scoring with less than three minutes left to propel the Pipers to victory. Collins also scored the game-winner earlier this year against Gustavus; that goal being scored with less than two minutes to play. This time he was assisted by Martin and junior
Jeron Hirschfeld.
Â
From there, the Pipers only allowed one more shot on net, which senior
Evan Robert saved to secure the win. Robert made 28 saves in total for the Pipers, ending his collegiate career with a win.
