ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline women's tennis team (1-12, 0-9 MIAC) closed out the season this weekend with matches against Saint Benedict (4-8, 2-7 MIAC) and Macalester (7-1, 7-1 MIAC), falling 9-0 in both.
In Friday's match with Saint Ben's, each doubles team took at least two games from their Bennie opponent. First years
Taylor Vyskocil and
Lily Vang played in the No. 1 spot, falling 8-3. It was senior
Janie Schwartz and junior
Taylor Hopkins who played at No. 2 and first years
Peyton Buerman and
Jersi McAlpine who played at No. 3, each coming out on the losing end of an 8-2 decision.
In singles, McAlpine played in the No. 5 slot, taking six games off her opponent in the second set, but dropping the match 2-6, 6-7. Vang and Hopkins took two games in each set in their matches at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, and Vyskocil played in the No. 1 spot, falling 0-6, 1-6.
Schwartz was in the No. 4 position, conceding the match 2-6, 1-6 and Buerman rounded out the group in the No. 6 spot, falling 0-6, 1-6.
In Saturday's match against Macalester, the Pipers played the same lineup. At No. 1 doubles, Vyskocil and Vang dropped their match 8-2. Hopkins and Schwartz played at No. 2 and McAlpine and Buerman were at No. 3, both falling by a score of 8-1.
In singles play, McAlpine (No. 5) and Buerman (No. 6) each took three games off their opponent in the first set, but yielded in a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Vang, playing at No. 2 singles, fell in her match 6-0, 6-1, and Hopkins in the No. 3 slot fell 6-1, 6-0. Vyskocil (No. 1) and Schwartz (No. 4) conceded their matches 6-0, 6-0.
