SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University volleyball team opened the home portion of their schedule on Friday as they hosted the first day of the St. Paul Tournament against Whitman, and Luther. The Pipers came through with a 3-2 victory over Whitman, and a 3-0 sweep over Luther.
The sweep gives Hamline a 5-1 record.
Hamline 3, Whitman 2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-9)
A trio of Pipers registered double-digit kills, led by Rachel Rettmann's 22. Sydney Larson tallied 14 kills while Brynn Hendrickson added 13 to her stat line. Megan Rubbelke set them up for 52 assists in the match. Hendrickson added five blocks to her name, while Jenna Rubbelke also contributed in a big way with 22 digs, while Larson chipped in 12.
Hamline 3, Luther 0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-17)
The Pipers ended the first set with a 5-0 run en route to a 25-20 victory. It was the momentum Hamline needed as they only surrendered a lead once more in the match that resulted in a 3-0 victory.
Sydney Larson and Rachel Rettmann each led the Pipers offense with 10 kills a piece. Rettmann also contributed four blocks to her stat line. Megan Rubbelke registered 34 assists, and four service aces. Jenna Rubbelke paced the Pipers defense with a team-high 13 digs.
The Pipers will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 11 against Buena Vista at 1:00 p.m.
