WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team returned to action following a 21-day hiatus from competition on Friday, when they traveled to Winona, Minnesota to face Saint Mary's (Minn.). The Pipers weathered the storm after the first period, where they found themselves in a 3-0 hole. Jackson Wille and Ryan Murray each netted second-period goals for Hamline to get them within 3-2 of the Cardinals, but couldn't get any closer in a 4-2 loss.
The Pipers fall to 2-9-1, 0-5 MIAC, while Saint Mary's improves to 6-9-1, 4-3 MIAC.

The Cardinals outshot Hamline by a near 2:1 margin in the opening frame with a 15-8 edge, which led to goals from Nathan Solis :41 into the game, Nick Kiemel at 3:03, and Gabe Potyk at 15:26 to make the score 3-0.
Jackson Wille engineered a Pipers comeback with a goal assisted from Erik Dahl and Kohl Hedquist at 7:35 of the second to cut Saint Mary's lead to 3-1. Wille assisted Ryan Murray's score at 11:39 of the second to narrow Hamline's deficit to 3-2.
The Pipers couldn't inch closer, as Thomas Magnavite iced the game for Saint Mary's with a goal at 14:22 of the third period to make the score 4-2.
Saint Mary's outshot Hamline 31-27.
Pipers goalie Kevin Lake made 27 saves, while Connor Close stopped 25 shots for the Cardinals.
Saint Mary's was victim of 6-of-9 penalties called in the game.
The Pipers will host the Cardinals at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, January 22 at 7 p.m.
