Cardinals Come From Behind to Defeat Pipers 3-2

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team returned to action following a 45-day hiatus from competition on Friday, when they hosted Saint Mary's (Minn.) at TRIA Rink. Nikki Olund's goals in the first and second periods gave Hamline a 2-0 lead, before Saint Mary's netted three unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 3-2 victory.

The Pipers fall to 6-5, 5-2 MIAC, while Saint Mary's improves to 9-5, 6-1 MIAC.

Cheyenne Abear assisted on each of Olund's goals. The first occasion occurred just :19 into the game to make the score 1-0, before the second goal at 4:06 of the second period extended Hamline's lead to 2-0. The Pipers entered the third period with a 19-18 edge in shots.

Things didn't bounce in Hamline's favor in the third period as Kennedy Kraus, Abigail Painovich, and Delaney Wolf each tallied a goal for Saint Mary's to give them a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Pipers.

Saint Mary's outshot Hamline 31-25.

Pipers goalie Ava Bailey made 28 saves, while her counterpart Ary Ziakas stopped 23 shots for Saint Mary's (Minn.).

The Pipers will hit the road to Winona, Minnesota tomorrow, Saturday, January 22 for a 2 p.m. game time against Saint Mary's.
