Pipers Rebound With 4-1 Victory Over Cardinals

WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team made the return trip to Winona for the back-end of their MIAC home-and-home series against Saint Mary's on Saturday. The Cardinals held a 33-27 advantage in shots in the game, but that didn't matter as Pipers goalie McKenna Hulslander held them in check with 32 saves that lifted her team to a 4-1 victory.

The Pipers improve to 7-5, 6-2 MIAC, while Saint Mary's (Minn.) falls to 9-6, 6-2 MIAC.

Like Friday night's 3-2 loss, the Pipers held a 2-0 lead. Amanda Nylander made the score 1-0 at 2:34 of the first period, followed by Cheyenne Abear at 6:09 of the opening frame. The Cardinals were on track to duplicate Friday's comeback, and Ellie Hegdahl had a lot to do with that as her power-play goal at 1:23 of the second off an assist from Delaney Wolf and Carson Sheridan narrowed their deficit to 2-1.

Hamline prevented deja vû as they registered an 18-14 edge in shots from that point forward, which consisted of goals from Jordan Hansen as 6:01 of the second period, and Sophie Rausch at 6:07 of the third period that locked a 4-1 victory.

Michaela Arnold, Ally Steffensmeier, Nikki Olund, Emme Nelson and Rae Robert each picked up assists in the contest. A total of five penalties were called, three of which were assessed to Hamline.

Cardinals goalie Ary Ziakas finished the game with 23 saves.

The Pipers will host Saint Benedict in a non-conference game at TRIA Rink on Wednesday, January 26 at 6 p.m.
