SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team crossed the Mississippi River to face MIAC-leader Augsburg University on Saturday. The Pipers held a 33-32 lead at halftime before Augsburg's strong third-quarter that consisted of a 24-15 run gave them enough cushion in an 80-70 victory.
The Pipers fall to 11-4, 9-3 MIAC, while Augsburg improves to 12-3, 12-0 MIAC.
Augsburg 80, Hamline 70
Seven lead changes occurred in the contest. Jen Masello gave Augsburg the lead for good at 39-37 with 6:36 left in the third quarter, before the final score of 80-70 happened to be their largest cushion of the contest.
Lydia Lecher led Hamline with 17 points, while Alyssa Williamson registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tess Hauer rounded out the Pipers in double figures with 10 points. Sophie Findell notched a team-leading five assists.
The Auggies tallied an impressive 13-of-30 mark from the three point line as a team. Anja Smith led Augsburg with 21 points, followed by Jaley Coplin's 20.
The Pipers will host Saint Mary's (Minn.) at Hutton Arena on Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
