NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team made the 33-mile trip south to St. Olaf for a Wednesday-night MIAC battle. The Pipers dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 25-15) decision to the Oles.
Hamline falls to 3-18, 0-5 MIAC, while St. Olaf improves to 10-10, 3-2 MIAC.
St. Olaf 3, Hamline 1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 25-15)
Eighteen kills were unleashed by the Oles throughout the opening frame, where they never trailed in a 25-20 decision over the Pipers. The second set resulted in five lead changes, and 12 tied scores. The final tied score of the frame read 15-15, where Hamline pulled away with a 5-0 run highlighted by four kills that gave them enough cushion in a 25-18 victory. Two of Jenna Rubbelke's season-high six service aces iced the set-two victory, and tied the match at 1-1.
The Pipers couldn't attain that momentum, as they would drop 25-19 and 25-15 decisions en route to a 3-1 loss.
Rubbelke added 19 digs to compliment her six aces. Lindsay Eckelman led the way with nine kills and six assisted blocks for Hamline, who hit .147 against St. Olaf's .245 mark. Kaitlyn Kotek registered 18 assists.
St. Olaf was led Nicole Banitt and Marcie Rogers' 12 kills apiece.
The Pipers will host St. Scholastica on Friday, October 14 at 7 p.m.
