SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team welcomed Carleton to Hutton Arena for a Friday-night MIAC bout. The Pipers stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Knights in five sets by a 3-2 (14-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-11) score.
Hamline improves to 5-19, 2-6 MIAC, while Carleton falls to 5-15, 1-8 MIAC.
Hamline 3, Carleton 2 (14-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-11)
After hitting just .055 throughout the opening two sets that resulted in a 2-0 deficit, the Pipers clawed their way back. Five lead changes occurred over the opening stages of set three, where an 11-10 Hamline deficit ignited their 10-1 run that gave them enough cushion in a 25-16 victory over Carleton. The Pipers never trailed throughout the final two sets, where they secured 25-16, and 15-11 victories.
Hamline, who hit .328 over the final three frames, finished the contest with a .189 mark against Carleton's .237 figure.
Julianna Boyum paced Hamline with 11 kills, five aces, and four blocks. Riley Melby followed with 10 kills for the Pipers. Kaitlyn Kotek turned in an impressive night with 21 assists and four aces, while Jenna Rubbelke led the way with 22 digs.
Annalise Sokolow paced Carleton with 16 kills.
The Pipers will host Macalester tomorrow, Saturday, October 22 at 3 p.m., followed by defending NCAA Division III National Champion UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
