MOORHEAD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team entered the final stretch of their 2022 season on Friday night, when they traveled to Concordia (Minn.). The Pipers battled to their third-consecutive, five-set MIAC match. This time around, Hamline found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-2 (25-21,19-25, 24-26, 25-11,19-17) score.
The Pipers, who are mathematically eliminated from the 2022 MIAC Tournament with the loss, fall to 6-21, 3-7 MIAC. The Cobbers keep their MIAC Tournament hopes alive, and improve to 8-15, 4-6 MIAC.
Concordia (Minn.) 3, Hamline 2 (25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 25-11, 19-17)
The opening frame resulted in a 3-0 Pipers lead behind a pair of Kaitlyn Kotek service aces and a Julianna Boyum kill. It was the ignition Concordia needed they doubled up Hamline with a 16-8 advantage in kills, which powered them to a 25-21 victory.
The Pipers returned the favor with 16 kills of their own in the second set. They would notch a .171 hitting percentage against Concordia's .053 mark over the second and third sets, which pushed them to a 2-1 match lead behind 25-19 and 26-24 scores.
The Pipers were held to a -.027 hitting mark in the fourth frame, where Concordia cruised to a 25-11 win and evened the match at 2-2. The fifth set resulted in six different match points. Two of them belonged to the Pipers, who held 16-15 and 17-16 leads before Concordia closed the match with a 3-0 run that sealed them a 19-17 win and 3-2 match victory.
Kennedy Tutak notched a season-high 13 kills along with four blocks for Hamline, who finished the match with a .106 hitting mark against Concordia's .143. Lauren Wilborn added 11 kills and three aces. Katrina St. Clair led the offense with 20 assists, followed by Kaitlyn Kotek's 18. Jenna Rubbelke finished with 31 digs, a pair of aces, and five assists.
Maria Watt led Concordia with 17 kills, while Kaia Lill notched 54 assists.
The Pipers will close their 2022 season tomorrow, Saturday, October 29 at home against Bethel at 7 p.m.
