Pipers End Season With Loss to Royals

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team's 2022 season finale pitted them against Bethel at Hutton Arena on Saturday night. Jenna Rubbelke eclipsed 1,000 career digs in the contest, but the Pipers would drop a 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-21) decision to the Royals.

Hamline ends their season with a 6-22, 3-8 MIAC record, while Bethel will enter the 2022 MIAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 16-9, 8-3 MIAC mark.

Bethel 3, Hamline 0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-21)

The opening set resulted in a 19-16 Hamline lead, before Bethel exploded for a 9-2 run that included six kills and a service ace that secured them a 25-21 victory. The second frame saw Hamline lead 17-10 before Bethel battled their way back and took the lead on three more occasions. Two of those occasions occurred during their 5-1 run that closed the frame and iced them a 26-24 win. The Royals' .414 hitting percentage in the third frame was too much to overcome for Hamline in a 25-21 score.

Riley Melby, Lauren Wilborn, and Kennedy Tutak each had six kills for the Pipers offense. Jenna Rubbelke led the way with 14 digs and three service aces, while Katrina St. Clair had 14 assists.

Kirsten Cotter notched a game-high 13 kills for Bethel.

The Pipers, who have no seniors in 2022, are set to return their entire roster in 2023.
