SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team made the short trek to Northwestern (Minn.) for a rare Monday-night non-conference match. Maya Dempsey's three-point game highlighted the Pipers' 2-0 shutout victory over the Eagles.
Hamline improves to 3-4-4, while Northwestern (Minn.) falls to 3-6-2.

After a scoreless 0-0 draw through intermission, the Pipers prevailed with a pair of goals despite being out shot by the Eagles 13-8 over the final 45:00. The first goal occurred in the 59th minute when a Tylar Sayles throw-in bounced off Anna Browne and found Dempsey, who drove the ball down the right side 15 yards in front of the net. She fired a pass across the field to Sydni Thompson, who one-timed a shot 20 yards out to the back of the net to make things 1-0.
Dempsey tallied her third goal of the season in the 66th minute, when she got past the Eagles' back line all alone and let a shot go 20 yards in front of the net to widen the score to 2-0.
Northwestern held a slight 18-16 advantage in shots led by Dempsey's game-high four.
Pipers goalie Lauren Sicora made 10 saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Delaynee Bohatta recorded both of Northwestern's saves over just 9:21 of work, while Reagan Flaschberger made no saves throughout 80:39.
Hamline will host St. Scholastica at Pat Paterson Field on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m.
