SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team welcomed Saint Mary's (Minn.) to Hutton Arena for a Friday-night MIAC bout. The Pipers nearly forced a fourth set with a 15-10 lead in set three, which provoked a Cardinals timeout. The breather paid dividends for Saint Mary's (Minn.), as Ciarra McNally and Abbie Stigler brought their team from behind with five kills apiece down the stretch to secure a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 28-26) victory.
Hamline falls to 3-16, 0-3 MIAC, while Saint Mary's improves to 8-10, 1-3 MIAC.

After trailing for a majority of the opening two sets, Hamline jumped to a 15-10 lead in the third frame behind nine kills and a pair of service aces as a team. Lindsay Eckelman registered six of her team-best 12 kills in the third set, which helped the Pipers battle the Cardinals to extra points en route to a 26-26 score. Saint Mary's iced the 28-26 set-three win thanks to a Hamline attack error, and a Stigler kill.
Stigler came through with a game-high 21 kills, followed by 13 for McNally. The duo led a Cardinal offense that hit .252 in the match against Hamline's .187 mark. Peyton Berg had 22 digs for Saint Mary's.
Eckelman paced the Pipers offense with 12 kills, while Lauren Wilborn had nine. Kaitlyn Kotek set up the offense with 18 assists. Jenna Rubbelke registered 20 digs for Hamline.
The Pipers will travel to St. Catherine tomorrow, Saturday, October 8 for a 5 p.m. match.
