Pipers Pick Up Win in MIAC Opener

SAINT PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University women's basketball team was in action traveling to St. Catherine to open MIAC play. Stellar defense led the Pipers as they took home a 56-43 win over the Wildcats.

With the win the Pipers remain undefeated as their record improves to 3-0 (1-0 MIAC) for their best start since the 2019-20 season. The Wildcats will open their season at 0-1 (0-1 MIAC).

The Pipers used a fast start in the first quarter to jump out to 17-5 lead holding the Wildcats to just 2-12 shooting in the opening period. St. Catherine was able to fight the lead down to eight by halftime and cut it down to five early in the fourth quarter. They never got closer than that though as Hamline separated themselves to put away the win.

The Pipers were led by junior Lydia Lecher pouring in 15 points, and received a great performance from senior Tess Hauer who posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Pipers received a big defensive contribution as well from Chan'el Anderson-Manning recording five steals to go with her nine points.

Rachel Randleman paced the the Wildcats with nine points coming on 3 three-pointers.

The Pipers will be back in action Tuesday, November 22 at 7 p.m. to take on St. Scholastica in Duluth.
