SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team opened their 2022-23 season with a non-conference bout against nearby Northwestern (Minn.) at Hutton Arena on Tuesday night. The Eagles cruised to an 89-66 victory over the Pipers.
Hamline falls to 0-1, while Northwestern (Minn.) kicks off their campaign with a 1-0 mark.

Daniel McCarrell scored Hamline's first eight points. It resulted in their lone lead of the contest at 3-0 off the bat, before Northwestern took control of the driver's seat for good in a an 89-66 victory.
McCarrell paced the Pipers with 19 points that consisted of a trio of three-pointers in his collegiate debut, followed by Bradley Cimperman's 16 on three 3-pointers made. Austin Holt, a sophomore transfer from NCAA Division II Northern State, came through with a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as a team-leading four assists for Hamline.
The Eagles were led by Henry Fahnbulleh's double-double 14 points and 11 boards, while Kyle Kaemingk notched a game-high 24 points. Caleb Hoilien (18), and Seth Fuqua (12) rounded out the Eagles in double-figures.
Northwesten shot 36-of-81 (.444) from the field while Hamline went 23-of-66 (.348). Both teams nailed 11 three-point baskets.
The Pipers will host Luther on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m.
