RIVER FALLS, WIS.—The Hamline University men's basketball team made the short trek across the Minnesota-Wisconsin border to UW-River Falls on Saturday evening. The Pipers didn't lead the entire second half, but that didn't stop them from ending it with a 10-0 run that knotted the score at 67-67 to force overtime. Hamline never trailed in the extra session en route to a 75-72 decision over the Falcons.
The Pipers improve to 6-3, while the Falcons fall to 4-7. This marks Hamline's first win over UW-River Falls since December 15, 2018, when they came through with an 88-84 (OT) decision at Hutton Arena.
Hamline 75, UW-River Falls 72
The Pipers found themselves in a 34-26 hole at halftime despite eight lead changes throughout the opening 20:00. The entire second half didn't result in a lead for Hamline, who outscored UW-River Falls 41-33 in the frame. This included a 10-0 run that dug them out of a 67-57 deficit with 4:09 remaining in regulation. The run was capped by Austin Holt's layup with 1:26 remaining that knotted the game at 67-67 to force overtime.
The Pipers never trailed in overtime, as Bradley Cimperman scored five of his team's eight points in the frame to help secure a 75-72 victory.
Holt registered his sixth double double of the season with 21 points and 11 boards, which included a nearly flawless 8-of-11 mark from the field. Daniel McCarrell came through with 18 points and three assists, while Cimperman notched 16 points for the Pipers.
Rodrick Payne notched a game-high 27 points and 11 boards for the Falcons.
The Pipers will travel to North Central (Minn.) on Saturday, December 31 for a 3 p.m. game.
