SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team squared-off against Concordia (Minn.) in the front end of a two-game series at Tria Rink on Friday night. Annika Lindgren's goal 1:38 into overtime gave the Pipers a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Cobbers.
Hamline improves to 5-4, 4-1 MIAC, while Concordia (Minn.) falls to 3-5, 0-5 MIAC.
Hamline 4, Concordia 3 (OT)
Despite a scoreless opening frame, the Pipers managed to hold a commanding 17-2 lead in shots. The Cobbers would weather the storm over the next two periods.
Five-of-seven goals scored in the contest occurred in the second period, where Hamline set the tone with a 2-0 lead behind goals from Nikki Olund at 1:14, and Emme Nelson at 6:08.
That score didn't last long as Morgan Sauvageau scored the first of her two goals in the game at 7:37 of the second period to cut Concordia's deficit in half at 2-1. The Pipers pushed their advantage to 3-1 behind Molly Meyers' tally at 11:42, before Sauvageau's second goal of the game at 14:50 made things 3-2.
The Cobbers managed to outshoot the Pipers 8-5 in the third period, which resulted in Erica Friese's goal at 12:47 that knotted the score at 3-3.
The 3-on-3 overtime period was all Hamline, who held a 5-0 lead in shots that culminated in Lindgren's game-winner 1:38 into the session that gave her team a 4-3 victory.
Five-of-seven penalties in the contest were assessed to the Pipers. Haley Eder-Zdechlik finished the game with two assists for a Hamline team that outshot Concordia 36-26.
Olivia Rinzel made 23 saves in net for Hamline, while Becca Macklin stopped 32 shots between the pipes for Concordia.
The Pipers will host Concordia (Minn.) tomorrow, Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m.
