Pipers Prevail With 2-1 OT Victory Over No. 6 Gusties

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's hockey team hosted No. 6 Gustavus Adolphus in the 2021-22 regular season home finale on Friday. Pipers goalie McKenna Hulslander kept the Pipers in the contest with 42 saves, before Rae Robert put the game to bed at 2:10 of overtime with a shot at the top of the left circle that lifted her team to a 2-1 victory.

Hamline improves to 12-7, 10-3 MIAC, while the Gusties' first MIAC loss of the season puts them at 16-3-2, 10-1-2 MIAC.

Seniors McKenna Hulslander, Molly Garin, Rae Robert, and Jordan Hansen were honored for Senior Day.

The opening 10:00 of the first period was all Hamline, as they held a 5-0 edge in shots. That momentum led to Jordan Hansen's goal at 11:21 of the first period that gave Hamline a 1-0 lead. A high-sticking penalty on Hamline at 10:28 of the second period gave Gustavus a power-play opportunity they took advantage of, courtesy of Kristina Press at 11:19 that knotted the contest at 1-1.

The second and third periods saw the Gusties outshoot Hamline 29-12, but Hulslander stopped all those opportunities in regulation. The first opportunity of overtime belonged to Gustavus, as Kayla Vrieze's shot hit the post at 1:13 before Roberts' goal gave Hamline the 2-1 win.

Gustavus outshot Hamline 43-22. Katie McCoy stopped 20 shots in net for the Gusties. The Pipers committed seven-of-10 penalties called in the game.

The Pipers, who remain in second place in the MIAC, will travel to Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow, Saturday, February 12 for a 2 p.m. game.
