Oles Prevail With 2-1 (OT) Win Over Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team hosted St. Olaf at TRIA Rink on Friday night. Both teams skated to a 4-4 tie in their previous meeting in Northfield on December 31. It looked like another tie was going to go down in the books, but the Oles prevailed in overtime with a 2-1 victory behind Casey Parker's goal at 3:22 of the extra frame.

The Pipers fall to 3-13-1, 1-8 MIAC, while St. Olaf improves to 7-12-3, 4-6-1 MIAC.

St. Olaf 2, Hamline 1 (OT)

The Pipers held a slight 26-25 shots edge in a contest that saw no scoring in the opening two periods. Sean Walsh broke the scoreless play with a goal for St. Olaf at 13:58 of the third period that made the score 1-0.

Hamline's power-play woes this season didn't show tonight, as leading scorer Brendan Sheehan's fifth goal of the season at 17:01 of the third period knotted the score at 1-1. The 3-on-3 extra session went in St. Olaf's favor courtesy of Parker's goal at 3:22 of the frame to give his team a 2-1 win.

Carson Simon and Andrew Erwin each picked up an assist on Sheehan's goal.

Lukas Haugen stopped 25 shots in net for St. Olaf. Only two penalties were called in the game. Hamline goalie Kevin Lake made 23 saves.

The Pipers will travel to St. Olaf tomorrow, Saturday, February 5 for a 5 p.m. game time.
