Comeback Falls Short in 6-5 Loss to Oles

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team traveled to St. Olaf for a Saturday-evening battle. The Pipers came up strong with two power-play tallies in the contest and outplayed St. Olaf in the third period, but the comeback bid was too late in a 6-5 loss.

The Pipers fall to 3-14-1, 1-9-0 MIAC, while St. Olaf improves to 8-12-3, 5-6-1 MIAC.

Special teams played a vital role as 13 penalties were assessed in the contest. The Oles cruise to a 2-0 lead within the opening five minutes, as their second goal was of the short-handed variety. The Pipers came through on the power play courtesy of Sam Dabrowski at 5:27 of the first period to narrow the score to 2-1, before Jackson Bond knotted the game at 2-2 at 13:06 of the opening frame.

The Oles grabbed the lead for good at 17:20 of the first period behind Brendan Darby's goal that made things 3-2.

The Pipers trailed 6-3 before goals from Carson Simon at 15:49 of the third, and Erik Dahl's power-play mark at 19:27 narrowed the score to 6-5 before time ran out.

Tyler Nyman contributed three assists for Hamline, who were outshot 33-21 in the contest. Pipers goalie Kevin Lake made 27 saves, while his counterparts Thomas Lalonde and Lukas Haugen combined for 16 saves for the Oles.

The Pipers will travel to Saint John's on Monday, February 7 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
