TUCSON, ARIZ.—The Hamline University baseball team squared-off against Wesleyan (Conn.) in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday afternoon. Both teams combined to utilize 11 pitchers and register 35 hits in the contest, but it was the Cardinals who led from start-to-finish in a 14-9 decision over the Pipers.
Hamline falls 3-5, while Wesleyan improves to 2-3.
Wesleyan 14, Hamline 9
The Cardinals jumped to a 10-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings before Hamline found the scoreboard. Colton Peters came through with a two-run single that scored Max Gerstner and Cullen Buck in the third inning, which cut the Pipers' deficit to 10-2.
Hamline weathered the storm from that point forward, as they outscored Wesleyan 7-4 over the final six innings. This included Cullen Buck's two-run home run in the eighth inning.
Peters paced the Pipers at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing that included a double, four RBI, and two runs scored. Buck went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs scored, and a pair of RBI. Gerstner and Johnson each contributed two hits for Hamline.
Will Tzavaras, Dan Fredericks, Hayden Ring, Xavier Bembnister, Dalton Maxwell, Parker Leipzig, and Spencer Klika all saw pitching time for the Pipers.
Hamline will return to action on Tuesday, March 15 against Concordia (Wis.) in Tucson, Arizona at 9 a.m. (MT).
