Eagles Get Past Pipers 7-3

ORLANDO, FLA.—The Hamline University baseball team faced Edgewood in Tucson, Arizona on Wednesday morning. The Pipers couldn't maintain a lead in a 7-3 loss to the Eagles.

Hamline falls to 3-7 on the season, while Edgewood improves to 6-4.

Pipers starting pitcher Zach Branson allowed just one base runner over the opening three innings, which helped keep the score at 0-0. That momentum didn't continue as Edgewood took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning that made the score 3-0.

The Eagles added another run in the sixth inning to extend their margin to 4-0 before Hamline cut the score in half in the seventh inning. Owen Christenson's two-run single knocked in Braeden Bourne and Finn Melchior, which made things 4-2 halfway through the seventh.

The Eagles responded with another three-run inning in the bottom of the seventh, which was too much for Hamline to overcome in a 7-3 loss. Gavin Renwick drove in the Pipers' final run of the game in the eighth inning with a single that scored Tyler Johnson, who led off with a double.

Seven Pipers finished the game with one hit. Branson allowed six hits and three runs over four innings of pitching work. Ryan Conn and Conor Mestemacher came in for the final four innings, and combined to give up seven hits and four runs.

The Pipers will face Dickinson State in Tucson, Arizona on Friday, March 18 at 9 a.m. (MT).
