TUCSON, ARIZ.—The Hamline University baseball team faced NAIA member Dickinson State in Tucson, Arizona on Friday. Four lead changes occurred in the contest, as Hamline came from behind with a three-run eighth inning to secure a 12-10 victory over Dickinson State.
The Pipers improve to 4-7 overall, while the Blue Hawks fall to 7-12.
Hamline 12, Dicksinon State 10
The fourth and final lead change took place in the bottom of the eighth inning, where Hamline found themselves in a slim 10-9 deficit. Tyler Johnson set the tone with a walk, and eventual scored when Owen Christenson reached on an infield error to knot the game at 10-10. Christenson moved to scoring position on Max Gerstner's walk, and circled the bases on Caden Erickson's double to give Hamline an 11-10 advantage. Gerstner made things 12-10 off Logan Tollefson's sacrifice bunt.
Both teams combined for 27 hits. Mac Enlow paced Hamline at the plate with a 3-for-5 outing that included a solo home run in the fifth inning. Stephen Schmidt went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Pipers, while Cullen Buck notched a team-leading three runs scored along with a 2-for-4 performance.
Both teams combined to use 10 pitchers. Conor Mestemacher pitched the final two innings to secure the winning decision. Braden Schneider, Xavier Bembnister, Parker Leipzig, and Mestemacher combined to strikeout nine batters and surrender just two walks.
The Pipers will end their spring trip tomorrow, Saturday, March 19 in Tucson, Arizona against Concordia (Wis.) at 9 a.m. (MT).
