Cobbers Take Two From Pipers

MOORHEAD, MINN.—The Hamline University baseball team embarked on their longest trip of the conference season with a Monday road bout at Concordia (Minn.). The Pipers couldn't find the win column as they dropped 2-0 (7 Innings) and 11-4 decisions to the Cobbers.

Hamline falls to 7-13, 1-3 MIAC, while Concordia (Minn.) improves to 8-7, 3-3 MIAC with the sweep.

Concordia (Minn.) 2, Hamline 0 (7 Innings)

Pipers starting pitcher Zach Branson surrendered five hits and two runs in the complete-game effort, but his offense provided him just two hits courtesy of Cullen Buck and Braeden Bourne. The third and fifth innings resulted in one Cobbers run, which proved to be enough to secure them a 2-0 victory.

Cobbers starting pitcher Jacoby Nold went the distance, as he gave up just two hits in the shutout victory.

The Pipers came back from a 1-0 deficit with a four-run third inning. Avery Nelson and Stephen Schmidt registered back-to-back singles, before Cullen Buck reached on an error to load the bases. Max Gerstner knocked in Nelson and Schmidt with a double to give Hamline a 2-1 lead. Buck and Gerstner later scored on Owen Christenson's single to push the score to 4-1.

That proved to be all of the Pipers' scoring in the game, as the Cobbers closed things with 10 unanswered runs to secure an 11-4 victory.

Nelson paced Hamline at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing, while Christenson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Braden Schneider, Conor Mestemacher, Jonah Smallfield, Ryan Conn, and Hayden Ring each saw action on the pitching rubber for Hamline.

The Pipers will travel to Saint John's (Minn.) (DH) on Wednesday, April 13 for a 2:30 p.m. start.
